Synopsis: The marsh that Kelly loves is threatened by a multi-national's plans to build a toxic waste incinerator. Her unemployed dad welcomes the new plant, her mother opposes it because Kelly suffers from asthma. Laced with songs and humour, the play explores consumerism and peer pressure as well as family conflicts, environmental and employment issues. Hot Potato! was the centre piece of a full day's workshop for pupils during which they staged their own public enquiry and videoed debates between representatives of industry and STINC (Stop Toxic Incineration Now in Cleveland). |
